JASON DUONG

FITNESS MANAGER & COACH

1. What is your fitness background and experience?

I received my Bachelor’s in Anthropology from UCLA back in 2020. While I was studying, I also gained hands-on experience working in a Physical Therapy clinic for 5 years. After getting certified with NASM, I’ve been a fitness trainer for 3 years now. I started at UCLA’s John Wooden Center and now I’m thrilled to be a full-time fitness coach right here at Formula Fitness! I’ve had the pleasure of working with a diverse group, from young students and athletes to seniors and post-op patients.

2.What is your fitness philosophy or training approach?

I believe in using evidence-based and science-based exercise and nutrition programs to yield optimal results for my clients. As a coach, also utilizing behavioral-change approaches is not only important for achieving goals in health and fitness, but helping clients improve in all aspects of life. If I can educate my clients, I can help them ensure long-term success, and self-efficacy, creating a healthier lifestyle and sustainable habits.

3.What are your specific areas of expertise within fitness?

My areas of expertise include Strength and Conditioning, Mobility Recovery Techniques (trigger point, static stretching, and PNF, IASTM, cupping), Corrective Exercise, Senior Fitness, and Nutrition.

4. Can you share a success story or memorable client achievement you've been a part of?

Being a part of my client’s fitness journey has truly been an amazing and humbling experience. I remember when I first started training with Chris Chouu and he expressed how working with a barbell or going to a gym was intimidating. Let alone, lose 10% BF. Today, he’s 15% less body fat while packing on 10 lbs of lean muscle mass. Pull-ups once seemed impossible for him, but now he has made them become a reality. To see Chris evolve beyond just improving health and fitness, but also becoming more confident in and outside the gym is why I truly enjoy being a coach.

5. What sets you apart as a trainer?

The characteristics that set me apart from other trainers are that I am patient, encouraging, challenging, interactive, accountable, detailed and thorough.

6. What are your personal fitness interests or hobbies outside of work?

In my free time I enjoy activities that allow me to be creative, explore other cultures that connect with others, outdoor and fitness activities (hiking, snowboarding, traveling, muy thai, tennis), cooking, spending quality time with friends, family, loved ones, cars, and building new things.
